About
Overtone is a dating app built on the idea that people connect over how they sound, not how they photograph. We were brought in to build the brand around that premise, and to make the difference obvious from the first screen.
Mark
The wordmark is drawn as a waveform that resolves into letters. It reads as type first and as sound second, which is the order the product wants: you meet a person, then you notice how they speak. Simplified, the same curve works as an app icon and a listening indicator.
Colors
The palette moves the way a voice does. Two anchors hold the interface steady while a gradient between them carries state, warming as a conversation goes on and cooling when it goes quiet, so colour does work the interface would otherwise spend words on.
Product
We designed the listening state first, because it is the part of the app nobody else has. Playback, waveform, reply and skip were drawn as one control rather than a row of buttons, so the whole interaction sits under a thumb.
Voice
The writing had to carry the same idea. Prompts are short and spoken rather than written, and every piece of interface copy is set at a length someone would actually say out loud.
End
The result is an app that feels less like a catalogue and more like a conversation already in progress.
