About
Amp is a home training system that tracks what you actually do rather than what you meant to. The design problem was progress: how to show it honestly on days when there isn't any, and still make it worth coming back to.
Concept
We built the product around a single continuous line rather than a streak. A line can dip without breaking, which is the truthful shape of training, and it removes the all-or-nothing feeling that makes people quit after one missed week.
Product
The home screen answers one question: what now. Today's session sits alone at the top, with history beneath it, so the app opens on an action rather than on a dashboard to be interpreted.
Interface
During a set the screen is read from across a room, mid-movement. Type is set large, the count is the only thing that changes, and everything that isn't the current number is dimmed rather than removed, so nothing jumps.
Motion
Movement carries effort. Counters settle rather than snap, and the line redraws at the pace it was earned, which makes a hard session feel different from an easy one without saying so.
End
Amp ended up with a progress model people can stay inside of, including on the weeks it doesn't go well.
