About
Podplay is a platform for keeping score. It had to work for a casual game among friends and for a league that keeps records, without either feeling like it was using the wrong tool.
Concept
Scorekeeping is done one-handed, often standing, usually while play continues. That constraint set the whole design: if an entry takes more than a moment, people stop doing it, and a half-kept record is worth less than none.
Product
Scoring is the home screen. There is no menu to enter first and no session to start, and everything else in the product, history, standings, profiles, is reached from that screen rather than before it.
Interface
Numbers are set at the size you read from arm's length, and the two controls that matter sit within thumb reach at the bottom of the screen. Everything that isn't scoring moves up and out of the way.
Motion
A score lands with weight and cannot be missed, because the most common error in scoring apps is not knowing whether the tap registered. Corrections undo just as visibly.
End
Podplay came away with a product that keeps up with the game rather than interrupting it.
